Why You Should Be Sleeping in Natural Fabrics

The best fabrics for nightwear

If the best sheets you can buy are all made from natural fibres, it makes perfect sense that your sleepwear should be made from the same.  After all, people have used cotton and linen sheets for hundreds of years. It is not a coincidence that we create our sleepwear exclusively out of natural fabrics.

In fact, there are many reasons why cotton and linen are ideal sleepwear fabrics. Aside from the fact that natural fabrics are biodegradable and do not require harsh synthetic chemicals in production as polyester does, natural fabrics have some benefits that are a little closer to home. Here's a quick guide:

Pure linen nightwear

  • Can be lightweight or heavier
  • Soft against the skin means no skin irritation, especially after washing and wearing a few times
  • Not as easy to care for as cotton but most modern washing machines will work just fine to keep linen in good shape. However, keep it out of the dryer!
  • If you like a crisp look to your linen, feel free to iron at a high heat but if you're like us and don't mind the natural wrinkled look of a washed linen, feel free to skip the iron or give it a quick steam instead.
  • Excellent at keeping body temperature regulated
  • Very breathable
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • If you generally get warm while sleeping or live in a warm climate, normal weight linen sleepwear is your best bet

Should we sleep in linen and cotton blends?

  • Can be lightweight or heavier
  • Soft against the skin means no skin irritation, especially after washing and wearing a few times
  • Easy to wash and care for
  • Keeps body temperature regulated
  • Breathable
  • Durable and long lasting
  • If you generally get cool while sleeping, try a cotton linen blend fabric. The cotton component keeps warmth closer to the body better than linen on its own.
